The boys looked in danger of walking away empty-handed after losing Best British Group to Mumford and Sons, but they later scooped the specially-created Global Success award.
They were also mentioned by the vast majority of celebs who appeared on camera. When Sharon Osbourne and Dermot O'Leary approached the stage to present an award, the former X Factor judge likened him to Harry Potter, saying: "Where is that little Harry Potter boy? Has he got his magic stick with him? That's his willy."
Earlier, James Corden had asked Emeli Sande who her favourite member of the band was. "Zayn," she declared, prompting Corden to joke: "Filth."
Jack Whitehall also bantered about the band when he and Louis Smith arrived to present the award for Best British Live Act, saying a little over-enthusiastically that he loved their performance of 'One Way Or Another'.
The boys also performed theirComic Reliefcharity single of 'One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)'.
