Illusion is the fourteenth track from One Direction's fourth studio album, Four.
Background[]
On September 8, 2014, the boys announced the release of their fourth album, Four, on the Today Show. The boys, along with the band account, then tweeted about Fireproof. On November 17, 2014 the boys announced the new song Illusion.
The song was inspired by Liam's former relationship with Sophia Smith. Liam stated: "There’s a song on the album that’s completely about Soph. It’s called ‘Illusion’, and funnily enough, I didn’t write it…I was having a chat with Julian – we were both talking about girlfriends – and I left him at it [songwriting] and he wrote all the words based on mine and Soph’s relationship. It’s all based on things about us.”[1]
