Stockholm Syndrome is the eleventh track on One Direction's fourth album, Four.

Listen to the song!

Lyrically, Harry Styles - the song's primary co-writer - confirmed the subject matter referred to being in a sexual relationship with a nymphomaniac. He implied in a later interview the song may also have an underlying message about fame. In 2014, an interviewer asked him who the captor in the song is. Styles replied "You". Along with this, it's the second lowest song by One Direction on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and received no points according to the point value and Billboard. The lowest song is "Never Enough" when it peaked at 100. On December 5, 2015, it was peaked at 100 behind "My House" by Flo Rida and "Trust" by Justin Bieber.

Background[]

On September 8, 2014, One Direction announced the release of their fourth album, Four, on the Today Show. The band members, along with the band's official account, then tweeted about "Fireproof". On November 17, 2014 the group announced Stockholm Syndrome would be a track on the album.

The term "stockholm syndrome" refers to a psychological disease where a kidnapped person feels empathy or affection for their captor. The song uses the term in a metaphorical sense to describe falling in love with a person they originally did not intend to fall for.

The song resembles Tears For Fears 1985 hit single "Everybody Wants To Rule The World".

One Direction added Stockholm Syndrome to the On The Road Again Tour setlist in February 2015, replacing "Happily".

On 9 May 2017, Harry performed the song solo, during his Today Show Summer Concert Series set.

Lyrics[]

[Harry]
Who’s that shadow holding me hostage?
I’ve been here for days
Who’s this whisper telling me that I’m never gonna get away?

[Zayn]
I know they’ll be coming to find me soon
But I feel I’m getting used to
Being held by you

[All]
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done now
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, you’ve got me tied down
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh

[Louis]
Who’s this man that’s holding your hand
And talking ‘bout your eyes?
Used to sing about being free but now he’s changed his mind

[Niall]
I know they’ll be coming to find me soon
But my Stockholm syndrome is in your room
Yeah, I fell for you!

[All]
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done now
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, you’ve got me tied down
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh

[Liam]
All my life I’ve been on my own
I used the light to guide me home
But now together, we're alone
And there's no other place I'd ever wanna go

[Harry]
Baby, look what you’ve done
(look what you’ve done to me)

[All]
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done now
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh
Oh
Baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh
Baby, you’ve got me tied down
Oh
Baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh
